 quailty problem with texporter

ok i mapped my object and set the image size to 512x512. and when i render the uvm map it bad quality like so:
when my friends is also better quality, but the same size. like this
is that suposed to be like this, or am i doing something wrong?
max 7 sp1, v3.4.6.6

nvm i fixed it. you render the image at 4096x4096 and then open the bmp in photoshopa and resize it to 512 or 1024. photoshop auto smooths it makes it have AA.
simple and easy.

texporter is designed to create a "template" image using which you can paint our own texture. Therefore the it lacks the AA and such.

The way I'd suggest you to have some AA would be the same as you discovered already: prepare he texture in higher size and downsample. Looks like you friend did the same thing: edges are smooth.
